A triple murder suicide took place last night (December 7) in the Mankada Samagipura village in Hambegamuwa, Monaragala where a gunman had shot four members of the same family, killing three and then turning the firearm on himself.
Police stated that initial investigations had revealed that the 22 year old gunman had been in a relationship with a 19 year old girl whose parents had opposed the union after which he had shot both parents and both daughters before committing suicide.
The 19 year old girl who had also been shot by the man was rushed to the Balangoda Hospital for treatment.
