Deputy Minister of Petroleum Industries Sarana Gunawardana has been suspended from attending Parliament for a period of one week over his behavior during the President’s budget speech.
Earlier today (29) the Speaker ordered Leader of the House Nimal Siripala de Silva to propose a motion preventing Sarana Gunawardena from attending Parliament for one week, Ada Derana Parliament reporter said.
Therefore the motion was proposed by the Leader of the House after which Speaker Chamal Rajapakse imposed the one week suspension on the Deputy Minister.
Several opposition MPs who were holding placards condemning the 2012 budget proposal were attacked by government MPs on November 21 during President Mahinda Rajapakse’s budget speech.
Speaker Chamal Rajapakse on the following day stated that an investigation will be carried out regarding the incident and that those responsible for bringing placards and posters to parliament and creating a tense situation will also be investigated.
Seven nails removed from Sri Lankan housemaid in Dammam
According to Saudi Media, seven nails have been found embedded in a Sri Lankan housemaid employed in Dammam.
The Arab News website had posted an article that the nails were removed from the woman’s body following surgery over the weekend at the Dammam Central Hospital.
Twenty-two (22) year old Subramaniam Sasikala was admitted to the hospital by her employer last Tuesday.
The housemaid had informed the police that she lost consciousness after consuming a certain liquid given by her employer’s wife and there after she cant remember what happened.
She had also told the police that during her employment period, neither her employer nor his wife had ill-treated her.
Arab News further reported that Saudi police have commenced investigations into the incident. |
