President Mahinda Rajapaksa has ordered the IGP to investigate the raid on Western province minister Nimal Lansa in Negombo.
The STF has carried out the search without a warrant, purportedly to find firearms, drugs and other contraband, the president said.
He visited the provincial minister at his home yesterday (Oct. 18) and promised him justice.
On the previous day, around 150 STF commandos raided the homes of minister Lansa and six millionaire businessmen in Negombo.
After the search, the minister’s supporters gathered at his homer, and he explained matters and calmed them down.
President Rajapaksa was accompanied in his visit to minister Lansa’s home by minister Basil Rajapaksa, deputy minister Lasantha Alagiyawanna and western province chief minister Prasanna Ranatunga.
Meanwhile, the STF says it has not searched the minister’s home, and that they had only gone there and spoken to him during a raid in Negombo town. |
