Parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa criticised the unnecessary publicity provided to his family through the state media.
The Parliamentarian levelled this criticism when the expenditure heads of the Ministry of Mass Media and the Ministry of Telecommunication and Information Technology were taken up for debate in Parliament today.
When the debate opened in Parliament today UNP MP Gayantha Karunathilaka focused attention on the Ministry of Mass Media and levelled several allegations against the Ministry in particular and the mass media in general.
The MP also spoke on media freedom and the cinema industry in the country.
Meanwhile, Opposition Leader, Ranil Wickremesinghe came down hard on the manner in which some journalists use the media.
Joining the debate UPFA MP Namal Rajapaksa criticised how the state media presents information about his family.
He found fault with instances where his father Mahinda Rajapaksa, Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa, Minister Basil Rajapaksa, Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa and his brothers were highlighted on the same news bulletin.
Rajapaksa said that in this backdrop, it is his family that would be criticised owing to such news reports.
He noted that the state media should also take the views of the opposition to the general public. |
