“I am going to retire with happy mood “says Sanath Jayasuriya
Sri Lankan batting hero Sanath Jayasuriya has announced his retirement from
the International cricket after playing t- 20 cricket match and first one day
game at Oval grounds in London on next June 28th. This is very concern news for
the Jayasuriya’s cricket fans in Sri Lanka as well as all over the world .
Jayasuriya the 41 year old veteran cricketer is easily become the oldest
cricketer in the International level with his experience he is the best hard
hitting stroke player ever produced by Sri Lanka . He has decided to retire from
one day cricket after playing 445 one day matches and he is only second to world
batting star Sachin Thendulkar who is still 37 years old prolific run getter in
India
Jayasuriya started his International one day carrier from 1989 when he
was played against Australia in Melbourne which was his debut game .Sri Lanka
won the Wills World Cup in 1996 and Jayasuriya was named most valuable player of
that world cup tournament . Actually this was the Jayasuriya’s most memorable
moment of his cricket carrier. However Jayasuriya said he was very disappointed
about the last 2011 world cup where he was not included for the final 15 squad .
I am not say my omission is the reason to lost the final some times If I world
play the final we could not win but some times we could win but I think this
time we had good chance to win the world cup said veteran batsman Sanath
Jayasuriya .
My cricket carrier is very strange one from others I had more difficulties
from the beginning . Especially I am from Matara and came to Colombo as a
outstation cricketer. After I reached to Colombo my friend Dester was keen to
give his residence to stay and first ten years I had to stay that house. St
Servatius Colllege my school Principal and staff gave good lessons for me . I
had to move Colombo for the Club cricket and settle down.I think I had to train
very hard and that’s was the success my carrier I had to maintain my fitness
always . Those days very difficult to enter the National side and I had to
compete lot to get my place But finally I got chance to captain the side with
my performances said Jayasuriya .
Jayasuriya also said I selected to retire from this England tour and my
last game would be first one day at Kennington Oval in London . This is
memorable ground for me and we on the one and only test last time in this same
ground and also I stroked fluent century in my last England tour . I think this
is good ground but I also like Melbourne , Lords , SSC as well as R. Premadasa
Stadium . I think my cricket carrier there were so many bowlers like Ambrose and
Walsh from West Indies, Wasim Akaram , Waqar Yunus from Pakistan , Shaun Pollok
from South Africa and not to forget Garbajan Singh and Shane Warne both of them
are good spinners all of them gave good challenge for me as a batsman .
Anyway I am not happy with the last selection committee headed by Aravinda de
Silva . They thought my name is not suitable for the best 15 squad for the last
World Cup. But I think those days I was among the runs at the domestic level
club and Provincial cricket tournament .I was among the first 3-4 places . But
they never consider me as a allrounder or the batsman . I don’t like to talk
about last selection committee. Aravinda is my friend at the National team those
days but after he came to the selection committee his attitude was not similar
to me and we never talk about cricket . But my view is if cricketer played 150
test matches and 500 one day matches he could not be the good selector .
Selectors must involve with provincial coaches , trainers and physiotherapist to
get good knowledge about the cricketers to select best teams said Jayasuriya who
himself has good knowledge after playing 22 years International cricket.
Jayasuriya who is turn out to Politician now PA MP for the Matara district
said I am not deicide what type of contribution I can give for the Sri Lanka
cricket but wanted to do some thing for my game . He was highly criticized about
the present cricket administration said I saw many faults at the cricket
administration from the media . There is financial problems and other
administration problems is there but the head of the present SLC has to give his
answers to all and he could sought out the all problems . In my period there was
good Interim committee administrators like Sidath Wetthamuni,Sakanda Kumar ,
Kusil Gunasekara, Asantha de Mel . They did good job not like these days . So
I think cricket administration has to do better job said Sanath Jayasuriya .
