Sri Lankan floods

A three-year-old elephant that was washed away in the recent floods was found dead in a 15 ft tree in Habarana today. It is reported that the elephant was stuck on the tree for three days before its body was found. The level of water in the area was estimated to be 18 ft high. Sri Lanka military is battling to deliver relief to hundreds of thousands of flood-hit people in the east and centre of the country following recent torrential rain. Some areas are accessible only by helicopter.
